The EASE Lab (Eating, Affect, and Self-Evaluation)

The EASE Lab is a research lab at York University in Toronto, Canada, directed by Dr. Jennifer Mills. Our interests are primarily in the areas of body image and eating disorders. The researchers within this lab study malleable risk factors for disordered eating, including body dissatisfaction and dieting. A large portion of our current research is on the consequences of social media use on how women's body image, mood, and eating behaviour. Other recent research projects include brief intervention strategies for body dissatisfaction, women's reactions to eating disorder prevention messages, motivational interviewing as an adjunct to hospital treatment of eating disorders, and the nature and risk factors of orthorexia nervosa, which is a term used to describe a pathological obsession with "clean" or healthy eating.
